Axle+B is a variation of the basic breakout formula, with a bit of adventuring added in.  What sets this game apart from the rest is mainly the developers' attention to detail in all aspects of the game.  The music sets the mood right away, and the graphics add a great deal to the atmosphere.

The proffesionalism is evident as soon as the main menu loads up, complimented by sparkling effects and bright colors.  After selecting a few options, like your name and character portrait (just like in an RPG), you can begin playing.

The action is fast-paced, and although it might seem overwhelming at first, you do get the hang of it with time.    I just wish there was more time to pause and gaze at the pretty visuals, which are all animated quite well.

As if the game wasn't loaded enough as it is, it features a level editor with a gazillion options for you to mess around with.

Overall, what I enjoyed about this game (and what kept me playing longer than other breakout clones) was that it all flowed together so smoothly.  The story-driven gameplay added the feeling that I was on a somewhat-epic quest, and my progression in the game was for a reason.

I highly recommend that you at least try out Axle+B.  While it is only a 1 hour demo, it does give you a good taste of things to expect and it might persuade you into supporting the developers with a small fee of appreciation.  And you get unlimited play of the game.  The choice is yours, but it's definately worth a try.
